People want things done, Scotty, and there are still too many Republicans holding things up.
In any case, it's nice to see that you finally found something to post about in politics. You've been very quiet. I guess you have to wait for good new to show up, like Congress having low poll numbers. Cheer up! Pork is being added to the immigration bill (which polls show that people want), so more Republicans will vote for it!
By the way, didn't you once say that polls are meaningless? I guess they are just meaningless when it is the Republicans whose numbers are low, huh?

You may be right, DG. The poll results of the Republican Congress were brought up several times here, so I figured a turnabout was fairplay.

Most Congress' can't get things done if there is not a strong majority of one party or another. I don't think it has anything specific to it being related to the Republican or the Democrat party.

I wish the congress would do what they were elected to do. It seems that none of these people care about doing what is "right", but rather they focus on how their stand will look in the evening news sound bites.
So few people have the time to really pay attention to what is goimg on that politicians know they can do nothing so long as they just make a few sound bites for the news shows.
I just don't trust any of our elected officials anymore.

It sure didn't take long for the polls to reflect the fact that in the 2006 elections when the Democrats took back control of both houses of Congress, the voters were sold a bill of goods.
It is quite obvious the Democrats had no real plan on solving the situation in Iraq. Or any other problems, as far as that goes. All the Democratic leadership has done is use the issue as a political football, trying to cross up the President at every turn.
The fact is the rhetoric put out by Sen. Harry Reid & Speaker Nancy Pelosi actually helps out the radical Muslim cause. Is that what they were elected to do??? Help the enemy...

At worst, their plan or lack of plan is no worse than whatever you want to call the course of action followed by the administration and its (dwindling) supporters since we invaded Iraq. Saying that Reid and Pelosi have helped the enemy is, quite obviously, ludicrous. The State Department's own figures have shown that terrorism is up world-wide since Iraq was invaded, most think tanks devoted to foreign policy feel that invading Iraq created a focal point and training ground for terrorists, and most of the so-called Coalition of the Willing has or is dropping out.
The biggest bill of goods sold in this fiasco has been bush's claim that he was a "uniter, not a divider", although the search for WMDs runs a close second. (How's that coming? Did we find them yet?)
Meanwhile, back in Afghanistan (You remember Afghanistan, don't you? It's the country whose government supported bin Laden, the guy behind 9/11.), the Taliban still controls large areas, drug fields are increasing (with most of the final product ending up in the US and most of the money supporting the bad guys), and the government we installed is only doing marginally better than the puppet show in Iraq.
The new Congress may not be doing much to stop the shipwreck that bush and company have charted for the USS, but ships of state take a while to turn around, especially when the captain doesn't believe the visual reports of icebergs.

True, the new congress doesn't seem to have taken control and put everything to rights.
But which is worse - the Democrats' having "no real plan on solving the situation in Iraq", or Bush's having no workable plan when created the situation (for no good reason) in the first place?
'The new Democratic-led Congress is drawing the ire of voters upset with its failure to quickly deliver on a promise to end the Iraq war...'Newly empowered Democrats draw wrath of voters
One reason why Congress isn't doing well in such polls -
(CNN) -- Despite the new Democratic congressional leadership's promise of "openness and transparency" in the budget process, a CNN survey of the House found it nearly impossible to get information on lawmakers' pet projects.
Staffers for only 31 of the 435 members of the House contacted by CNN between Wednesday and Friday of last week supplied a list of their earmark requests for Fiscal Year 2008, which begins on October 1, or pointed callers to Web sites where those earmark requests were posted.
Of the remainder, 68 declined to provide CNN with a list, and 329 either didn't respond to requests or said they would get back to us, and didn't. (Find out how your representative responded)
It seems the Democrats are just as bad as the Republicans they replaced.
(No, I didn't check to see how many of each party didn't respond in the time alloted. That only 31 out of 435 responded in a timely manner shows the problem lies (appropriate word, no?) on both sides.

Often controversial, but never one to mince words on either side of the aisle, Dick Morris has pointed to Republicans Ted Stevens of Alaska and Thad Cochrane of Mississippi as being the worst earmarking offenders.

I am not going to search out to see if any Democrats are among the worst offenders; I assume that they are. Can anyone point out to an attempt under the Republican Congress to do anything about earmarks? Was it ever brought to the floor? If not, who stopped it? If it was voted on, what were the numbers?
I find it humorous that Scotty and Lighten just now find issues that are important, when the Democrats fail to get things done in the 6 months they have controlled Congress. I guess these issues weren't important during the 6 years that the Republicans controlled both Congress and the White House.
Of course, then there is the time when one of the staunch bush defenders complained about the Democrats not accomplishing anyting in Congress even though they had won the election. Of course, the complaint came in late November, just a few weeks after the election. Those of us who actually know a bit about how the government works are aware that a new Congress doesn't take office until the following January.
Nothing objects like objectivity.

Of nine Representatives in our state, six are Democrats, three are Republicans. Of those:
4 Democrats responded but refused any information 2 Democrats didn't respond
None of the three Republicans responded.
A clean sweep for our Congressional delegation.
No wonder I have much more faith in the political leaders at the state and local levels here in Washington than I do in the ones at the national level.

I find it humorous when people assume that they know what others are thinking.
