What kind of stamps and ostage would you have to use to send a package from California to Virginia? Could I just go to the post office and ask for enough stamps to send something to Virginia? Around how much would this cost?

Have the package size, weight, and Zip Code information ready, then:

Calculate postage

Or just go the Post Office with your package ready to send and they'll take care of everything (except paying Smile). I would suggest going during an "off" hour when things aren't so busy, like around 3:00 in the afternoon.

Yeah, what Fuse said.
I send lots of packages and I just wrap them at home, take them to the post office and the clerk weighs them and tell me what they cost. They don't use postage stamps on packages. They just stamp on one price.

Some post offices will even wrap the package for you. The expense depends on the weight, and it can get very costly.
