A first year college student recently showed me a short story (about 24 pages) that he's written in English. It is very well done and I would like to suggest that he enter it in a writing contest, but when I searched for writing contests, they all either look like scams or else they are state-specific in the US (he is Mexican and lives in Mexico).

Does anyone know of any international writing contests for young college students (he's 18)? The genre of the story is fantasy or original fairy tale.

The contests I could vouch for are limited to people with Canadian or UK connections. (My brother won a prize in the 'Macallan/Scotland on Sunday' competition Smile.)

www.writewords.org.uk - this is a directory of competitions which should be kosher. You need to sign up to the site for details, but maybe you can google the titles.

For example, Writers' Forum looks promising.
