I've got a package that's being delivered via DHL. I've never heard of this shipment service before. When I researched it, it seems like an express delivery, but I still didn' quite understand because every site I visited wanted me to sign in or something similar.

Is this something like UPS? Is it express delivery? I thought express was something that you had to pay extra for. Confused

DHL in the UK are identical to UPS

Reliabiity is very good

In fact Have you got the tracking number you can post it and it will tell you where the delivery is in the system
www.dhl-usa.com/home/home.asp
and you needn't register if you are tracking items Its only if you are an account holder (a person who sends)that this applies Smile

It’s the same thing as FedEx or UPS, just a different delivery service. If you want to track your package, you probably don’t need to register, like bedstor said. We’ve had stuff from all three delivery services and so far the only one I don’t have complaints about has been DHL.

Thank you both, and thanks for the link. I do have a tracking number and it worked without me having to log in. I found my info, but no status was given as to where the package is located now.

Since DHL seems like a popular service, I'm shocked that this is the first I've heard of it.

Anyway, thanks again. Smile

Actually, I haven't received it yet. I got the email confirming that it was shipped on 5-07, so I should receive it any day now.

DHL is where my partner works. Of course the office location is in San Francisco (thus the long commute)

DHL was, in the USA mostly aimed at companies. Recently it bought out some other company (The gray one, can't recall the name) and went public targeting the private market. The buy out was a bone of contention causing my partner to have to join the union, However it was a buyout that also acquired the ground shipment to make private home to home shipping possible. That and contract drivers who own their own vehicles.

However it operates in more place on the globe than FedX and UPS - in fact DHL were the first ones back to Afghanistan and Iraq. They service countries that Fed X and UPS are asked nicely to stay away from (Axis of Evil countries included)

DHL is owned and operated by a German Company, now having been recently (closer to a decade ago I think) bought out. from American Interests.

Dewy Hewy and Louie (not the real names of the owners) had some "interesting" legal matters which were kept on the QT, although the employees of the American side still chatter on about these things in whispers of course. Rumor has it that due to these, um, sensitive personal activities the company sold out to save the owners face.

Very interesting, David. Seems that DHL is a very big operation.

Anyhoo, I just got my package today and it came by postal service. I traced the shipping route and it was with DHL in Georgia, Michigan, Indiana, but when it got to Springfield IL, it was switched to the post office. Evidently, the trucks don't do home deliveries here, and that's probably why I was so unfamiliar with them.
