What's the difference between alkaline and heavy duty batteries? Just because alkaline costs more, would that make them any better?

Thank you Mozart. The link is so interesting and educational. Now I see why the batteries in my caller IDs run down so fast. Might as well buy alkaline, but I got a lot of the heavy duty ones I gotta use up first.
