December 10, 1901: First Nobel Prize awarded

The first Nobel Prize for physics was given to Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen for the discovery of X-rays.

Everything else I can find says that 1901 was the first year the prizes were awarded, then goes on to list the people who won each category.

Other than Physics, I haven't found the specific month and date of the other awards, but here they are:

1901 PEACE PRIZE
The prize was divided equally between:

JEAN HENRI DUNANT, Switzerland. Founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Geneva; Initiator of the Geneva Convention (Convention de Genève).

FRÉDÉRIC PASSY, France. Founder and President of the first French peace society (since 1889 it has been called the Société Francaise pour l'arbitrage entre nations).

1901 CHEMISTRY PRIZE

JACOBUS HENRICUS VAN'T HOFF in recognition of the extraordinary services he has rendered by the discovery of the laws of chemical dynamics and osmotic pressure in solutions.

1901 PHYSICS PRIZE
Dec. 10, 1901

WILHELM CONRAD RÖNTGEN in recognition of the extraordinary services he has rendered by the discovery of the remarkable rays subsequently named after him.

1901 MEDICINE PRIZE

EMIL ADOLF VON BEHRING for his work on serum therapy, especially its application against diphtheria, by which he has opened a new road in the domain of medical science and thereby placed in the hands of the physician a victorious weapon against illness and deaths.

1901 LITERATURE PRIZE

SULLY PRUDHOMME (pen-name of RENÉ FRANÇOIS ARMAND ), in special recognition of his poetic composition, which gives evidence of lofty idealism, artistic perfection and a rare combination of the qualitites of both heart and intellect.

UInfortunately, anguilla, Physics was not the only one presented that day. If you look on the Nobel web site (nobel.se) you'll find that Chemistry, Physiology, Literature, and Peace were also presented that day.

The Peace prize was presented at 10 AM in the Norwegian parliament. I've tried, but I can't find a time for the presentations of any of the others.

I e-mailed the Nobel organization to answer our question for us. My query to them:

"A question has come up as to which of the 1901 prizes was awarded first - that is, earliest in the day on December 10, 1901. Your kind reply will be most appreciated."

The response, from the Executive Editor of the Nobel e-museum:

"The Prizes awarded in Stockholm on December 10 are always
given out as they are listed in the will of Alfred Nobel, i.e. Physics,
Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine and last Literature. The Peace
Prize is awarded in Oslo, Norway. During the years 1901-1904 the
decision on the Peace Prize was announced at a meeting of the
Storting on December 10, after which the recipients were informed
in writing. In 1901, the Nobel Laureates for Physics, Chemistry,
Physiology or Medicine and Literature had been informed earlier in
October and November. Today the Nobel Peace Prize is also
awarded on December 10.

Finally, the answer to your question is that in 1901 on December
10, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen was the first person to receive the
Nobel Prize in Physics."
