If I want advice for free on almost anything I'd visit a Citizens Advice Bureau (C.A.B)office in almost any town in the UK Smile
What happens if you want advice in North America without paying? Do they have a C.A.B type office in your town?Roll Eyes
Note: On the Web besides the Uk the only CAB office I Found was in New Zealand!

Generally, in the US, people refer to the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

Thanks for that Smile
You know something the title sounds like it caters for the business man rather than the consumer? Roll Eyes

It does. Depending on the topic, there are different sources for advice. On questions related to agricultural issues (and relating very vaguely in some cases) I've found the University of California to be an excellent source of information -- like how to get rid of termites, for instance.

The state of California also maintains a bureau of "consumer affairs" that can field some kinds of questions, although I believe their main function is to investigate complaints of improper business practices against which individual consumers are usually unable to do anything effective.
