Since I STILL can't get into AP I have a question!!! Smile

I have a letter to send to Canada...it is right across the border...will I need to go to the post office to send it and if not will I need more than one 37 cent stamp? Thanks!

Kitty-

I think there is an additional charge for out-of-the country mailing (no matter HOW far away); I suggest you go to the post office.
Can anyone provide a more definitive answer?

It isn't even 37cents in the U.S any longer, it's 39cents, and to Canada from the U.S it's 63 cents for the first ounce.

A few minutes search found the information below. If anyone finds the rates to be in error, please let me know.

Global Airmail Letter-post - Postage starts as low as 63¢ for a one-ounce letter to Canada or Mexico. This service lets you send letters to customers, businesses and loved ones across the world. - http://www.usps.com/global/globalairmail.htm

Canadian Officials strictly enforce Addressing and Customs requirements
Customers mailing items to Canada must comply with strict addressing and Canadian customs requirements. Postal items that do not display the complete name and address spelled out in full of both the sender and the recipient are being denied entry into Canada. According to Canadian officials, this action is pursuant to the Customs Act and reflects heightened security measures.

Mandatory requirements include:
* Addressee full first, middle and last name must be spelled out. Company names are acceptable.
* Sender full first, middle and last name must be spelled out. Company names are acceptable.
* Addresses to recipients in Canada should be printed in ink or typewritten in capital letters
* The last line of the address must show only the country name, written in full, and in capital letters.
* When a Canadian postal delivery zone number is included in the address, mailing requirements allow that number to appear as the last line of the address.
* Complete and legible customs declarations, including complete sender and addressee information along with required import documentation, must be provided to specifically identify the contents of any package.
* General descriptions such as “gift” or “present” are not acceptable.

If you need to know more, you can also calculate your postage yourself:
http://www.usps.com/tools/calculatepostage/welcome.htm
But this would require guessing at weight for some things. If your post office is convenient, just go there and ask them -and then you'll know for the future.

If it's just a letter, and a 39c stamp would suffice here, the simplest thing is to just use two 39c stamps. You'll waste 15 cents and save a trip to the Post Office. Or, if you still have 37 c stamps you'll only waste 11 cents. Wink
