Well down the list I see a "Security and Safety Service" -- about five lines from the bottom. I presume these are the people you're asking about.

Thanks, it probably is. Not much information, unfortunately.

I guess a follow-up question is does anyone know anytihng about it? Is the staff mostly American? Some country that has a history of impartiality? Run completely by the UN and made up of individuals from a variety of countries? Something I haven't thought of?

A google search for "United Nations" and "Security and Safety Service" turned up a little more. Evidently the UN is inadequately provided to prevent espionage against itself in New York, at least while people are trying to blow up it's offices and kill it's employees in other parts of the world. They have to make decisions about how best to utilize limited resources (don't we all?) and have decided that the physical safety of the employees in hazardous positions rank higher in importance than checking the phones and offices of higher officials in relatively safe locations.

I see you guessed (correctly) what made me think of this question .

I agree that providing security to UN employees in dangerous situations is more important than protecting against wiretaps in a relatively safe location, but the wiretaps did make me curious who provides the security.
