Here's the same sort of data for the other 4, except that this is for the 1997-1998 election cycle. I'll see if I can find data for the 1999-2000 cycle.

    59 percent to Republicans

    Time Warner & affiliates

    Nice work, Meth---

Gee, sure looks like a lot of Republican contributions for all that "liberal media". Confused

Well, they could be trying to keep the enemy sweet by 'bribery' or 'buying off', Kelleygirl Big Grin

The real test of neutrality seems to be whether the news service is attacked by both sides for favouring the other. ( In this case the BBC must be OK; the Government has accused it of a war against it over 'false claims' and the Opposition says it's full of Mr Blair's friends and has a left bias!) Smile

To me it reflects the company management making the contributions. Not the newscasters. From what I understand it is not that uncommon to see such an opinion gap between the two entities.

EBknowsBUBBA, I think you're probably right. It seems both party's can spin this in their favor, as well.

Your numbers are for the 2000 cycle. Mine were for the 1998 election cycle. I'm surprised by the amount of difference for Viacom, Time Warner, and Walt Disney between those two elections, though.

EBknowsBUBBA - That is what it was supposed to reflect. That was, after all, the question.

After checking, I'm not finding similar numbers to you for the 2000 cycle. The links don't seem to be working at the moment, but my source links to the documents filed with the FEC (I also tried search directly through the FEC and ended up at the same sites with the same 'not found' message). Perhaps the links will work soon.

News America Holdings (The american arm of the Australian-based News Corp.)
38% to Democrats, 62% to Republicans

    General Electric:
42% to Democrats, 58% to Republicans

    Viacom:
50% to Democrats, 50% to Republicans

    Time Warner:
56% to Democrats, 44% to Republicans
    AOL:
44% to Democrats, 56% to Republicans
(based on their numbers, I calculate 52% to Democrats, 48% to Republicans for AOL-Time Warner as a whole).

    Walt Disney Co:
50% to Democrats, 50% to Republicans
