Hi, well there is the old tried but true car washes. My sorority has done several different fund raisers for various things.

1. People need their windows washed and hate to do it themselves. We charged $25 per house, depending on the size.

2. We put together a cookbook one year, it seemed like we had in put from the whole student body, not really but it seemed that way. We made copies and did the graphics ourselves.

3. How about instead of a car wash, a dog wash, Fido needs to be clean too.

I know there will be other good ideas too, good luck!

Our group (that also deals with the developmentally disabled) collects and resells formal dresses. We have two sales a year, one just before Christmas and one in Spring for the proms.
Students have an outlet to find inexpensive dresses for their formals, folks who seldom wear these dresses twice have a charitable way to pass them on.

How about a book sale! Members of the community could donate old books that they don't want any longer, and you could resell the books at a discounted price.

Good luck with your fund raiser!

Puppyb - I've planned and hosted numerous Fundraisers, and may have the answer you seek. A small Trivia Night should raise $1000, with larger ones doubling and tripling that, with little effort besides one night's easy work. I raised about $10,000 at one, but I had Bob Costas asking the questions. Since it was a Baseball trivia contest, I think his name was the draw, not my sparkling personality. Nonetheless, I organized it and pulled it off when others thought it would never fly. If you are interested, please write me, and I'll give you some references to check out.

I belong to Executive Women International and am part of a smaller chapter, so we have to get creative in our fund raising efforts.

We ran ads to have women donate no-longer-wanted work clothes that could be provided at low cost to low income ladies in the area just getting into or just returning to the workforce. (we get discounts and/or free ads because we're a non-profit, also, because we have members at the paper and local radio stations)

Then we get a small banquet room from a local hotel donated to us (again, since we have members there), and have a one or two day "sale", which again is advertised. We charge $1 to $5, depending on the item.

We had just a ton of stuff, made lots of money for our scholarship fund, and some very deserving women got some clothes they could be proud of for next to nothing.

We're also very involved with the Women's Shelter in the area.

We're going to do another one like that this year. Even if you don't have ties to newspapers and radio stations, often they have a budget to "donate" time or space for good causes...call or write the Director of Marketing or the Editor and just ask. You'd be surprised!

Good Luck!

Why not try a 'table-top sale'? People come along with all the stuff from there house that they don't want any more - good quality stuff only, not jumble. They pay a fee for a table, sell as much as they can and pocket their own profits. This way, you encourage people to take part and they are responsible for their own success or failure in selling.
Meanwhile, you also provide refreshments - if you can get people to donate home-made cakes, etc for this, that will be great. You can also run a tombola, raffle, Guess the Name of the Bear, etc, to add to the fun and frolics.
Good luck!
