It's rare I'm stumped finding a subject on a searchengine
I thought it would be straight forward
However 2 of us could not find a site with the answer
So can any Answerpooler help find a list for us?
Ok .the Task I set myself was to find a list of "early closing" days for shops in the UK
Normally they close Halfday on Wednesday Afternoons But there are variations within towns
Where I live the half day is taken on Mondays,Wednesdays and Thursdays (Different areas of town) Confusing for strangers(Local knowledge comes in handy on this)
The only list published was in the Automobile Association Handbook many years ago.
But as far as I can see there is no Official list published (Tried local government) unless I'm using the wrong key words
Additional question: Is "Half day closing" a British only tradition?

I don't know about other coutries, but in the U.S. where I live, the banks and doctors offices will close at like noon on Wednesdays (but this is not always consistant because some will close early on other days instead).

I think this is the case because some banks and doctors offices are then open later on another day of the week.

Bedstor, I'm sorry I can't help you find your list, but on your second question...this could very well be a British tradition, because I've never heard of half day shop closings. Seem like this would be a loss for the shops. On second thought, it could very well be done in some of the cities here, but not where I am.

Banks in the UK normally close at 3:30 most days (again there are minor time variations )but no later than 4:30
Doctor Surgeries:They are open roughly 9am-Midday then 4pm-6pm weekdays closed at the weekend

Dunno what you really need, but here's a list of health food stores in Norfolk, that are open Mon - Sat 9-5 but only half days on Wed 9-1.

There are not 1/2 days in US. Some of our stores are open 24 hours. Normal business hours are usually Monday- Saturday 10am-9pm
Sunday 12:00pm-6:00pm (sometimes stores open a little earlier) During Christmas times many stores are open from 6:00am- midnight. Most grocery stores are 24 hours and All purpose stores (Meijers Walmart Kmart) are open 24 hours. Most stores are open on all holidays. On Thanksgiving they are generally open until 4pm. On Christmas many are closed but gas stations and a few party stores are open. Bars are open until 2am everyday. We can't buy on Sunday until after 12:00pm.


What can we say.. we love to shop! LOL
