World Summit on the Information Society

A fundamental right to have access to information

Who should regulate the Internet (it does need some regulation, doesn't it)? Who can best provide the most accessible service?

In my opinion, the Internet does not require government regulation. The current system of controlling domain name registration is about all that is really required.

As for public access, it does not seem fair to Internet Service Provider businesses having to compete with tax dollar supported service providers. Having said that though, I do agree that Internet access is necessary in todays world.

According to some members I already have the jackboots, so perhaps I should apply for the job of controlling the internet. Wink Big Grin

The internet was better in the early '90s before they started passing all of these regulations.

I believe that there should be some standards in technology, but no country should be allowed to impose their laws on the rest of the world.

That said, if they really must regulate it, it should be a United Nations function.

I don't think it's the government we need to worry about.

The End of the Internet?

The nation's largest telephone and cable companies are crafting an alarming set of strategies that would transform the free, open and nondiscriminatory Internet of today to a privately run and branded service that would charge a fee for virtually everything we do online.
