In the UK Next year the Main Telecom Company is Upgrading the Nextwork Line speeds for Broadband Providers to a "Possible" 20Mbps Line speed (Will take several months as there are several Hundred exchanges/sub exchanges)And they are rewiring the Network too with Fibre optic cable
This will take several years and their Target is to get the UK running at an optimistic 100 Mbps speed! (FYI Current generation BB Routers can accept this speed at their current design limit)
Only thing that niggles me is what will (and can) we do with those speeds? Confused Even 20 Mbps is far too Fast for my Purposes!

I am getting 1.1 Mbs on my AOL (up to 8Mbps) Link which is the Norm for the Houses in this area Have had a spurt at 6.4 Mbps Last year.

With the forthcoming Upgrade I'm happy as I am
Pay the same money(& get the advertised 8 Mbps)...That's Warp Drive for Me Eek. If they offer the High speed Broadband prices for those will surely rise steeply and be divided into 1 speed for industry and the rich and the lower band for the Majority(And just when they got the Pricing structure simplified!)

I have decided to take this timely survey Global
to find out what the Situation is like local to you.

Please answer all the Questions so it Balances out. Thanks.

Question:
What Connection speed are you getting Now?
To see what the Number is hover your mouse pointer over the monitor icon (in the corner next to the Clock) and a Message box appears

Choices:
Up to 1 Mbps
1 Mbps to 2 Mbps
2 to 6 Mbps
6 to 8 Mbps
8 to 16 Mbps
16 Mbps or above? (state number)

Question:
What does your Internet Provider promise you as regards speeds

Choices:
Up to 2 Mbps
Up to 4 Mbps
Up to 8 Mbps
Up to 16 Mbps
Other Speeds (state number)

Question:
Do you think your current connection speed is Suitable for your Purposes...Surfing is Unchanged Only Download and upload speeds

Choices:
Slow
Just right
Too quick

Question:
Given the option of the speed upgrade for Your purposes

Choices:
Would you take it (and possibly incur a Premium?)
Refuse it (happy as you are) And still get a Bump up in speed

I hovered the cursor over the icon in the corner next to the Clock and it says "Volume 100" so I guess I have got the top speed.

DG, that's the VOLUME ! Roll Eyes

Bedstor, you'll have to be more specific about where DG should put his cursor.

My speed is 54.0 Mbps. Smile

DG!
Try again, that was the Volume Sound Properties setting(I always have that maxed out too)
Click instead on the "Flashing monitors"AKA "Local Area connection" and read off what it says in the Top "Connection" box regarding "Speed"

Look on the Start menu for Network Connections
It is Located underneath the Control Panel
Open this and click on the Local Connection icon
which has not got a red X on it there is also a 3rd Icon which is for the Router (if installed) This is Marked "1394 connection " This is always a Constant speed @ 400 Mbps

And DG? This Folder is also in the Control Panel icons too. if its Missing from the Start Menu list
