Elsewhere on this forum, Doñadiana mentioned that she has been using a computer that she has had "since 1998". I thought 'wow'!

She has replaced hers, maybe gave it to the Smithsonian, so I wonder now who has the oldest computer?

Mine is a year older than DD's. It's 10 years old and, despite the many hours a day I spend on it, is still going strong. I bought it second hand five years ago, and it's one of the best bargains I ever made.

I'm now quaking as I'm probably pushing my luck and will find that it's died on me when I switch it on tomorrow!

One of my computers was purchased new in Oct, 1997.

At the time it was running Windows 95 and 300 MHz Intel Pentium II processor with 32 Mb of RAM.

Since then I've upgraded it several times, but it still has the original 6-GB hard drive. It now has Windows 98 2nd Edition. By the way, it is an HP 8190.

Even though I have two other Windows XP systems, I still use the old one every day for a variety of tasks, mostly Email and Word Processing.

I still have a functional Apple 2e... if that counts as a computer... 2 floppies & 128K ram.

I have an Imsai 8080 that I assembled from a kit in 1977. Unfortunately it no longer works, but I also inherited an identical machine from my late friend who built his about the same time (it was the hottest-selling home computer in 1977), and I'm pretty sure it's still in working condition. Runs CP/M from 5.25" floppies.

It predates not only the IBM PC, but also the Apple I. It was basically a commercial clone of the Altair 8080.

When I first got it running, there was no keyboard, monitor, or disk drives. I wrote (very short!) programs in machine code, which were toggled into the front panel switches bit by bit. The output was read out with eight LEDs.

Now those were the days. Smile

I have an old IBM laptop, a Thinkpad 701C with a 75 mhz processor, 40 MB RAM, and 720 MB hard drive. I can use it on the net too, with a PCMCIA networking card.

I have a Tandy HX 8088, does that count? Upgreaded to 728K Ram, only to find the up grade was only for Vidio, put in a clock chip and a 140 Meg hard drive. Lots of bucks way back when. But it still works except the RGB monitor rolls. Back then we had those DOS files call Config.sys and autoecexec.bats to tell the computer what we had installed. Dead batteries for the Cmos made us reprogram in the hard drive, disk drives and all that. I wonder why I am feeling more mature. Signals from the output of the microwave on the other side of the wall wipped out the CMOS many times untill I installed an old photographic plate to deflect the signals. 17 years later the old plate is still beside the microwave on the other side of the wall.
