I am running 2 hard drives with a total capacity of 46 ghz, My larger hard drive is running at a reduced size of 37 ghz should be 40 ghz Additional question: Do you expect to add to you capacity and to what size? I think I am satisfied with what I have for the moment, but I'll buy another Western Digital 40ghz drive next time to get to 77 ghz, prices for these drives have dropped sharply, can buy one for under $150 (www.dabs.com) they were twice that price 18 months ago (Could be even lower around the New Year?) They have a clearance corner also an auction link, so they could be even cheaper. ******************************************************** 11-22-02, 04:29 PM TomGL2 You mean GB (gigabytes), not GHz (gigahertz), of course.
Regarding the "reduced capacity" you mentioned, the entire drive size is actually being used. Drive manufacturers generally use the decimal mega=1,000,000, and giga=1,000,000,000. Windows uses the binary mega=1,048,576 and giga=1,073,741,824.
Given a 40,000,000,000 byte drive, Windows should report its size as
40,000,000,000 ———————— = 37.25 GB 1,073,741,824
Seagate defines their values a bit differently: mega=1,024,000 and giga=1,024,000,000. A 40 GB Seagate is reported by Windows as
40,960,000,000 ———————— = 38.15 GB 1,073,741,824 ******************************************************** 11-22-02, 05:30 PM babthrower I have 18.6.
What does one need more for? Movies? I download music but not movies. I've had this computer for 17 months and have never used more than 1/3 of my drive. ******************************************************** 11-23-02, 06:40 PM vansrme I have a 40 gig hd, but it only shows up as having 37 gigs, go figure! lol I also have an 8 gig hd that I'm not using.
chris ******************************************************** 11-23-02, 06:49 PM Johnny Velo I have 32.4. It's all I need. ******************************************************** 11-24-02, 08:44 AM Murray S. Howdy:
I am running a 30GB and a small 10gb on my system.
30GB holds the OS and all programs while all downloads and personal files are kept on the second hdd.. Makes life so much easier if the system crashes and everything has to be reloaded or re-installed again !!
Murray ******************************************************** 12-02-02, 10:42 PM Kitty I have 3 drives and all of them are quite small. How do I add the total up? I do have a floppy disk in the drive so it is running right. ******************************************************** 12-30-02, 05:54 PM bedstor Jusork Your Hard drive size is: 37 GB I think you have a 40 GB drive but it gets reported back as 37GB See TomGL2s posting in this thread (My hard drive is reported in the same way)
