'Some 10,000 US researchers have signed a statement protesting about political interference in the scientific process...
...Michael Halpern from the UCS said the statement of objection to political interference had been supported by researchers regardless of their political views.
"This science statement that has now been signed by the 10,000 scientists is signed by science advisers to both Republican and Democratic administrations dating back to President Eisenhower, stating that this is not business as usual and calling for this practice to stop," he told BBC News.'US scientists reject interference
Has the Bush administration been particularly bad for science in the US, or is it actually just 'business as usual'? If Bush's government has been bad for science, why? Political or religious ideology, over-riding concern for short-term business interests, or what?
Yes, it's been bad, particularly bad. I think it is a combination of religious ideology and an over-riding concern for business profits at any cost. Remember, this is an administration that sees nothing wrong with paying $100 for a load of laundry, or twice as much as necessary for fuel because the right (read Right) company was doing the overcharging.
