When you pull out chin hairs with tweezers, are you getting the root out. Can a hair grow back if you get the root? Do hairs have roots? Confused

Yes, hairs do have roots and rarely are you able to pull them out by the roots.

Here is a site that discusses various methods of hair removal or reduction.

One way people kill hair growth permanently is with laser treatments.

Here is a site that discusses this process.

Thanks Sher, and thanks for the links. I was reading the article about waxing, and it said that waxing remove hair at the root, but I guess that means that it gets to the root, but don't get the root, because it also said that the results only last 3 to 8 weeks.

Thanks again, very interesting/educational links.

Honi, waxing, tweezing, and threading will all remove the hair at the root. The only permanent hair removal is to totally damage the hair follicle so that no more hair can be produced. This can only be done through electrolysis (thin probe is inserted into each hair follicle with electric current passing into it) or laser.

I have a friend who has quite a few strands of hair on her chin, they aren't very noticable unless you are "in her face" lol Regardless, you can see them and she has shaved them, only to end up with bumps that look like acne and the hair growing back.
Is this laser hair removal thing permament? or do you have to go back multiple times?

You have to go multiple times because hair growth is in a continual cycle. While some hair has already "sprouted" from the follicle, there is other hair in a "dormant" state. That is why you can tweeze hair one day and the next find more hair. The hair in one follicle can be under the skin while the hair in the follicle next to it has already pushed through. So it can take multiple treatments to kill all the hair follicles. But once all have been treated, it is permament.

Well waxing is cheaper! But then you have to add up the cost of waxing for the rest of your life compared to several hundred dollars you might spend of laser removal and you'll find the laser removal is cheaper in the long run!

OMG I just ran across this - Honi, too funny, I've been plagued with "chin hairs" too.

In fact, since going thru menopause, I seem to have WAY more facial hair - luckily, I'm a natural blonde so it's VERY fine and not noticeable except VERY CLOSELY (so only Brian see's it Wink ) but I've seriously been thinking of some treatment.

Even though fine, all this facial hair makes it hard to apply makeup so it looks good, darn it!

I saw advertised a topical perscription that is to be used consistantly (like reverse Rogaine, mainly). It DOES stop all hair grown around the mouth and chin over a seeral week period.

This 'Vaniqua' is a product I've been reading up on and watching for a while.

quote:
FDA approved
Dermatologist recommended
Works in the hair follicle to reduce the growth of unwanted facial hair by blocking an essential enzyme
Works on all hair/skin types
Safe and effective supplemental method you can use with your current unwanted facial hair removal procedures or methods

Has anyone else read about it?

I am a bit turned off by the start-and-never-stop-again aspect of (same as Rogaine for the reverse reason).

Opinions?
