i have had dermatitis on my hands and legs fairly badly for the past year or so. well, the red spots on my leg are going away finally as long as i use good lotion on them, but my hands are becoming a problem.
i have been to the dermatologist, but he never really told me what kind of dermatitis i have, just gives me a cream and sends my on my way. i don't like him much.
so i starts out with little blisters that itch and then eventually i guess they pop open and the skin starts to peel a little, still mostly itchy for a while and always red. it comes and goes and i cannot for my life figure out what causes it to come and how it goes away! does anyone know the name of this type of dermatitis?

First, if you don't like your doctor, can you go to another one? Its best to have a doctor that suits your personality and with whom you can talk.

Here is information on some different types of dermatitis.

I hope this helps!

I agree that you really need to see another doctor. You should request a skin biopsy to find out exactly what is wrong. Call your local hospital for a reference. There are so many possibilities as to why you would have small blisters on your hands that I would not even know where to begin. MommyTimesTwo and JerseyTomater gave you some great sites. You can look to see which symptoms are closest to yours and discuss the possibilities with your new doctor.

Keep in mind, you should never see a doctor that you are not happy with. You hire the doctor. You pay him to perform a service for you. You can fire him just as easily. There are too many good qualified doctors out there for you to see one you are not satisfied with. I spent years seeing a doctor I wasn't happy with.(I guess I felt loyal to him and figured he already knew me)It was the great people on this site who gave me the same advice a year ago. My new doctor is great. NEVER stay with a doctor you don't like.
Please let us know what you find out. Smile

Hello. This sounds like the same type of eczema I get. Mine start as a cluster of tiny "bubbles" under the skin, and, if not scratched, result in a red spot that remains for weeks. If I scratch, the bubble grow together in to larger bubbles that eventually pop and leave an open wound. I saw several different dermatologists and was told to keep it covered with vaseline by one, and to keep it dry by another. Through years of trial and error and research on the internet, I've concluded that hydrocortisone cream (or a prescription steroid cream) and lots of lotion help me the most. Best of luck.
