You can put stuff on your skin, but it only treats the topmost layer. What you eat is more important than what you put on the skin.
Instead of wearing makeup this winter, try using a facial lotion with Vitamin E BEFORE you go outside and get wind/cold burn (which causes the redness and dryness in winter) make certain that whatever product you use also has a decent SPF. That will treat the top layer of skin and provide a barrier from wind, sun, cold, heat, etc. I would suggest trying different products, buy a small package and try it for a week, see how it feels, how your skin reacts.
Some products are oilier (leave a greasy feeling) while others just do not seem to work. Price should not really be that important – nor should you look only at brand names. Vaseline puts out a few products; they are inexpensive and work well.
And put into your body the things your skin needs. Like vitamin C, Antioxidants, blah. Most daily vitamins have the daily recommended doses of all the things you need, now days there are a plethora of gender tailored, aged tailored and other specific tailored daily vitamins. I would strongly urge you to ask the Pharmacists which daily vitamin would be best for skin care.
Rosy cheeks are a sign of good health; later in life you may be finding yourself using rouge to give yourself that rosy coloring back. However there is a line between healthy rosy and unhealthy redness. If you think your redness is unnatural or a sign of some skin condition, have a doctor check it out and refer you to a dermatologist if needed.
