I have itchy bumps on my head. They get something like scabs on them, and my scalp feels tight, so I scratch them off. They come and go. I have some luck controlling them if I wash my hair every day with Selsun Blue, but I smell like a medicine cabinet all the time.

Anyone else ever suffered from this? If you tell me it's bedbugs I'll jump off the nearest tall building.

That happens to me too. It always seems to get worse in the winter for me. I started using Head and Shoulders until they started to disappear, and stop scratching, it seems to spread them. The shampoo burned them until they disappeared. But it helped. Once they were under control, I used the dandruff shampoo and I alternated with a regular shampoo. It took about 2 weeks before they were gone. I hope this helps.

Thank you J. Selsun Blue is even stronger than Head & Shoulders, which I have also tried. Good to know I'm not alone!

HI Catty,
I too, have that happen once in awhile. I think of it as scalp acne, kind of. I think it is because our scalps produce too much oil, and from there we get blocked sebaceous glands, which raise into a bump, much like acne, which in turn dry out the surface of our scalp, causing the itchy, dry feeling. I seemed to have had it more when my hair style required hair gels, etc. I use Neutrogena T-Gel, which smells horrendous, but works. When I was a teenager I had VERY long hair and had to have a prescription Selsun shampoo, which didn't smell very nice either. I still have it happen occasionally, but now that I have NO hair style, it doesn't seem to happen as much.Smile

LVLF, that may indeed be the explanation. I called my doctor once and told him I had contact dermatitis on my head, and he agreed with my diagnosis. He gave me prescription Selsun Blue that time, too. Unfortunately I don't have him any more.

Thanks for the info.

My husband used Selsun Blue for a long time, until we discovered Wegmans dandruff shampoo works just as good and is half the price! But for you, I would recommend strength. You can buy Selsun Blue in the grocery store.

From your description, it kind of sounds like you have cradle cap. I know, that's silly, but the same treatments might work. Work very gentle ointments and creams, like baby oil or aloe lotion into your scalp to soften the scabs up so they will come off. You may want to ask a friend or relative to help you with this, since it's hard to see your own scalp.

The best bet, though, is to go to a dermatologist for a diagnosis. Or even to a hair salon -I mean a real professional salon. A stylist could suggest a shampoo or other treatment. They have seen everything scalps have to offer. Smile

Thank you, Elixina. One time when I had this, my doctor wrote me a prescription for Selsun Blue. He said the stuff in the grocery store wasn't strong enough. Just now I am having pretty good luck with Tinactin so it may be a fungus.

I have a very similar problem..mine is psoriasis.. it's a pain..but i found using the medicated shampoos helps most of the time. But sometimes , during the "itchy months", all natural preparations work even better!

My fave, though is Neutrogena T/gel once a week or so.!
