My elbows get very dry. Black men usually call this "The Ash." Even against my white skin they look a little ashy. I scrub them in the shower and they get kind of raw. I put lotion on but the ashiness comes back. The rest of my skin is not all that dry. Is there anything I can do?

Try using an exfoliating body scrub available at bath and body works, and always follow up with a good moisturizer. You will need to do this on a daily basis, and possibly moisturize twice a day.

There is also an extremely good cream called Eucerine cream or Eucerine Lotion. It is quite expensive, but you can get it in practically any Walmart in the lotion section probably near the pharmacy. Doctors often use it for their patients... I had a patient recently that had a SEVERE reaction to a medication and ended up with hives over his entired body. When he began to recover from the serious rashes, his skin started flaking off in scales. I suggested he use the Eucerine Cream or Lotion and he recovered amazingly within a few days.

Try the Eucerine cream that Sherasi suggested. Another good one that I use on my feet that get crack and peel is Aveeno baby lotion. It is the baby department it is great stuff. They make adult kind but it cost about double the price. I put it on every night and my heels are better.

This is going to sound funny but it does work. Diaper rash ointment- put it on fairly heavily at night. You should notice a change in a few days. If you decide to try it use the clear kind, it rubs in better.
