My husband is a carpenter and gets slivers of debris in his skin sometimes. How can he get slivers of glass out of his finger? He has been squeezing his finger for hours and it is irritating.

Well,

I don't have any advice to give, but I do have an experience to relate.

About 7 years ago I stepped on a piece of glass, and it lodged in my foot. I was never able to get it out, and it never really bothered me in the location it was. There was always a lump in that area, but no redness or infection (thank God....)

About 2 years ago, I was sitting in bed reading when I felt an itching sensation in that area, and as I watched...the piece of glass worked its way out of my foot! talk about gruesome!!!

Hope he is able to get it out!

I have had to go to the emergency room for glass in my skin and I've also self treated.

The most important thing is to soak the area for 10 minutes before you do anything. That's what they do at the emergency room and I've tried it too and it works real well.

I really like the idea of using wax to remove glass because the problem with using tweezers is that the piece can be too small and brittle when squeezed. If it breaks off then you're in big trouble!

Hope this helps.

When my kids get splinters, I spread elmers white glue on the area. When it dries, I peel it off. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.
It's worth a shot.

Glass in skin is painful isn't it? I've always heard that glass will eventually work its way out as Shelster mentions. But I was in a car accident in 1989 and when the windshield shattered I got glass in the knuckle of my pinkie finger. It's been 14 years and I still have tiny shards embedded deeply. If I hit my finger on something hard I have a tearing pain. I guess sometimes skin just grows over the glass and you live with it the rest of your life. Frown
