While I'm here, might as well pass on a tip... I recently had to be put on blood thinners plus aspirin...Needless to say, if I just look at my arms, they bruise..
But not now....
I had been taking Omega 3 fish oil once a day... Tripled the amount and almost all bruising has stopped..Not all mind you, but a lot...
Try it and see...sure as hell won't hurt you..

actually, it darn well MIGHT hurt you. If you need blood thinners, you need thin blood. Things which counter that effect are therefore not good. You need to let your doctor know about any such drugs, supplements, etc, you are taking. Bruising is not desirable, but it's a more or less unavoidable corrolary of full anticoagulation. Don't mess around with self-treatment. Check with your doctor.

Herbal and other suppliments aren't safe just because they aren't prescription. This is especially true if you are on serious medications like blood thinners. You could well cause yourself a stroke or heart attack. Please take the advice above and ask the doctor first.

Oh please stop taking them right now Eek
It's interesting that you have less bruising now...because Omega3 Fish Oil actually has blood thinning properties and extreme caution should be taken with those using blood thinners such as aspirin and warfarin. In fact, High dose fish oils should be avoided by those on blood thinning drugs. You need to tell your doctor that you are taking this!

Fritzzs, I'm curious to know what kind of blood thinners you are taking, and what milligram, and why do you need both aspirin 'and' blood thinners.

The reason I'm curious is because I know someone that was on 32 milligrams of coumadin and I believe the effect is killing her. That's too darn much. It's a long story. Roll Eyes

the amount that's too darn much is the amount that over anticoagulates the blood.

Thanks Sid, I'm glad to hear that coming from a doctor. I wish you hadn't gotten mad with us and quit answering medical questions. This is a story that I would have loved to ask you questions on. Would you reconsider?
See, I've learned something from you already because I actually had never heard of anyone needing that much coumadin before. Thanks, even tho you were probably being smarty. Wink

Honi,

When doctors prescribe coumadin they test the blood to see what the coagulation levels are. They continue increasing or decreasing to get the levels to the desired therapeutic level.

As long as they are testing your friends levels, she is at a safe dose.

Well, the lady I mentioned has lost her fight with her blood clot. Her leg swell so big until it bursted and rotted. She had her leg removed last Wednesday and she died Monday. I'll be attending her funeral in Tennessee on Saturday. She was 45 years old.

Her leg is being donated to science for study.

Honi, I'm sorry to hear about this, sorry that they couldn't help her before it was too late. But at least there is something positive coming out of it and perhaps through the donation of her leg others can be spared a similar fate.
