I've read that mosquitoes are attracted to carbon dioxide, which we ALL exhale, so it can't be that. I guess they just like the way you smell.

I don't know if this is true, but I have heard that it is from a specific type of blood. It also could be your perfume, or what you wash your hair with.. it could be a lot of things. Maybe it's just pure coincedense.

i always get attacked by mosquitos but everybody else i am around never does.
i also get once in a while a spider bite in the middle of the night, but then my bed is near the window...

Well, we like to think they're attracted to people who are really sweet. *LOL* And I read your question wrong at first, I though u were asking why the person next to u doesn't bite u too..if that makes since, just read it again a couple of times and you'll see what I mean!

I think it may have something to do with body chemistry (including blood type) as well as externals like deodorant, lotion, etc. My dad and I (who have the same blood type) used to get eaten alive while my mother and brothers were hardly bothered. Some people REACT to the bites more than others. (I swell up terribly from one bee sting, while my husband can be stung repeatedly and hardly notice them.)

We have had some success using artificial vanilla (yes, the stuff you put in cakes and cookies) as a repellant. You can pour a little in your hand and rub it on, but we put it in a small spray bottle for convenience. One big advantage of vanilla is that it is safe for babies and small children who put their hands in their mouth.

Avon's Skin So Soft also seems to work well as a repellant.

I've heard that taking Vitamin B and garlic pills seems to make you less attractive to bugs, also.

I am told that veggetarians get bitten less than meat-eaters. This certainly seems to be true when it comes to mosquitos, I can sit near the pond for hours without getting bitten, my husband (a total carnivore) will be sucked dry by then. However, when our cats have fleas, it seems to affect both of us th same.

Those nibbling black flies are attracted to dark colors, try wearing light colored clothing instead.

Whenever you're outside and the bugs are REALLY bad... (like gnats and mosquitos, etc)..

I found that holding one hand above your head will keep all the bugs swarming around that one hand, and away from your face. Sure- they'll still bite your arm, but its still better than inhaling them and having huge bite marks on your face!!

I always was one that got ate alive. But this year I am not. I have only had maybe 2 bites. I am taking 50mg of Vit. B6 a day. I am taking it for hormonal problems at that time of month and it is working for the bugs also.
My son gets bit too. Try putting a Bounce dryer sheet in your pocket make sure most of it is sticking out. I put the corner in the back of his pants. It will help keep the bugs away. It really works. You need to use their regular scent. I have never tried it with a different brand. When we come in I put it in a ziplock bag and use it again the next day. If you can't smell it well use a new one.
