This is really starting to annoy me... up until a few weeks ago I had absolutely no problem with razor burn... anywhere. But all of a sudden everytime I shave under my arms I get this horrible razor burn. I use TONS of shave gel (Skintimate Sensitive Formula), and have always used that brand. I mean, I lather the stuff on until the razor almost won't cut because it's so slick... I've tried everything! I've tried shower gel, bar soap, and another brand of shave gel... nothing works! I still get razor burn every single time and it hurts and itches really bad.

FYI: I haven't changed deodorants or anything. I use Dove Sensivite Skin deo. (Yes, I have fairly sensitive skin if you haven't figured that out by now.) Wink

Has anyone else ever had this problem or know what I could try??? Thanks!

This is probably stating the obvious, but have you tried changing your razor? The only time I get razor burn when I use one of those cheap disposables, and have been using it for too long so it gets blunt.

I've always used the same brand of disposable razors, and replace them every couple weeks religiously. I had that issue a long time ago where it was hurting because the blade was dull. I've tried the expensive razors before but didn't like them very much. Thanks a bunch for the idea though!

Underarm hair doesn't necessarily grow from one direction. I've always found it very successful (and never with razor burn), to shave very lightly first from bottom to top and then from side to side.

Razor burn can occur not only from the hair folicles being "pulled" from a dull razor, but often people just put too much pressure on the stroke. Going over an area gently and from several different directions is generally a fix for this.

Good luck Sarah! Smile

I imagine that you are irritating the underarm skin by shaving too frequently. Slow down to once every two weeks. In the winter, when you are wearing long sleeves, you may want to simply carefully clip the underarm hairs with a scissor.

Skin sensitivity can change over time as your body chemistry changes, or even with the seasons, or the fabrics you are wearing. I find that if I shave under the running shower, and then put on a good bit of aloe lotion right after my shower, before deodorant, it significantly cuts down on irritation.
Rather than worrying about how you’re shaving and with what, sometimes what you do afterward can make a difference, too.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I actually shaved yesterday and only got very minor razorburn. It's probably the body chemistry thing... I just find it so weird that all of a sudden this crept up. Maybe it's because of the hot and humid weather.
