My adult son has a skin disorder on the palms of his hands that appears to be "untreatable." When he was a child, the bottoms of his feet dried out, split & cracked open and bled. I put "Bag Balm" on his feet, covered them with plastic bags then his socks. This worked good if done on a regular basis then it just went away. When he was about 18, it appeared on the palms of his hands. To me it looks very similar to the feet thing but the Dr.s say no. They have categorized it as a type of psoriasis (but no one seems to be able to name this type). My son has spent thousands of dollars on various treatments that Dr's. have just made money on. He had some very good success with UVB light treatments. The hands were still a little split & peeling but not cracking open, bleeding or painful. Then the disorder came out of remission and it is full blown again. The light treatments cost $125.00 a month. He is starting a new career this month and will be going to school and working full time, there is no way either of us can afford the treatments. I feel so bad for him and seem to be unable to help him in anyway. At age 6 he was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis & my mother died from complications caused by Lupus. If anyone has any info or advice on how to treat this "psoriasis" it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't know what kind of doctor you went to, but if he were my son, I would take him to a dermatologist. They are experts in skin disease. And good luck to you! Catty (who knows that psoriasis is an awful disease) confused confused confused

Skin disorders can be tricky to diagnose and treat. My husband and sons all have skin problems, none as severe as your sons. Here is a link to several sites, some for the Mayo Clinic, that may offer some help or ideas.

Thanks Catty, for reminding me - I forgot to say he has been to 2 dermatologists. That is who has been doing the light treatments.
