I don't think you would do anything under hypnosis that you normally wouldn't do anyways. If you would never smoke, hurt someone or bark like a dog then a hypnotist couldn't make you. A hypnotist can help you to let down your apprehensions and inhibitions. You would be doing what you normally are capable of doing anyway. woof!

I tried several group sessions of hypnosis for weight loss in 1981. The hypnotist taught us how to focus on something while she talked us through physical relaxation, then mental relaxation. While we were in this super-relaxed state, she gave us suggestions about eating healthful foods, and implanted images in our minds, both positive and negative. As long as I attended the sessions, I did lose weight. But after the classes ended, I was not very successful at keeping up self-hypnosis at home. I've heard of people having success conquering various problems through hypnosis. I think if I had been able to keep it up, I would have had more success too. Good luck Lungbutter! (Hey! I got your name right! )
