Some time ago I posted this question but before it could collect any answers, it vanished into the Question Limbo of the World, so I'll ask it again.
For many years, a strange thing has been happening to me. I wouldn't think anything of it, except that it happens so often - at least twice a week. I'll be reading while watching TV and at the same time I'm reading the word "abstract" I'll hear someone saying it on TV. This has happened with many words, different each time, and even with phrases, like "The King and Queen." I always get this spooky feeling when it happens. If it's not the TV it's somebody walking by on the street, or the radio, or someone in the house. Has anything like this ever happened to you? Catty (who is weird enough all by herself without this sort of stuff)

Me too. And another thing--I can be reading and watching TV at the same time and follow both stories, or reading and thinking about other things at the same time and follow both. Kinda like Morticia Addams' sister who can sing two different tones at the same time.
I've read that what's really happening is that you're especially primed to notice such coincidences. I.e., as you read the word "potato," your mind is focused on that word, so if it simultaneously hears or sees that word from another source, a connection is made. You just don't notice all the times the word "potato" appears in your world until it's a match.
That's probably true, but it's still a creepy thing. Just like playing double solitaire and having both players turn up matching cards over and over.
I say "Go for the explanation, but enjoy the creep factor."

If you stubbed your toe twice or three times a week for over two years, would you call it a coincidence? Or would you conclude that you were lead-footed? Catty (who is spooked by things like that)
