White noise is supposed to be frequencies which can be engineered for useful purposes by those familiar with sound equipment (or something like that), but what is the big deal about the sounds made sounding like humans speaking distinquishable words, while the speech cannot be matched to any particular humans? Eek

...or are you asking about electronic speech synthesis, to simulate a voice in things like answering machines or elevators?

Elexina's article invokes pareidolia, which explains a lot of "the unexplained" in life. Here's another article on it.

I can't tell you how many times I've heard "voices" coming from something like my refrigerator or furnace fan, when the house is dead quiet and my brain is trying to process background noise.

Well, you two have certainly opened up a whole new world for our reasoning abilities to cast out of our imaginations. However, we still have to grapple with the possibility that some unexpected things, not yet entirely explicable, may be real. That's the stuff of which I like to write books, especially when I think that I have a chunk of the explanation.

Until a person experiences these "things" personally, he/she does not have to grapple with anything.

Certainly, there may be things out there beyond our explanation (like why squirrels insist on running back out into the street when cars are coming, or why some people can make African violets bloom and others just cannot), but more often than not there is a rational explanation.

The voice growling at me from within my fridge is not the demon Zuul. It is simply time to get a new fridge. Big Grin

If you had a kid with such experiences, you would be experiencing concern personally. Otherwise, too often the herd mentality (consensus), which might be clouded by such negatives as fear and prejudice, prevails until it is too late to intervene for others' good, if one could have intervened for others' good.

Yes, having a child who experiences the paranormal is a different situation entirely. I don't think that part of the equation was brought up before. But I would think your child experiencing something like that is as close to a personal experience as you can get without actually having one.
If you know someone having these experiences, you can try to help them, but unless you're in that situation it's difficult to form an opinion on what's actually going on.
A good friend of mine has children who are very sensitive and experience paranormal visitations. That is something my friend handles with her children very well. That is just another reason why I am glad I do not have children. Big Grin
