Is it two, one to celebrate the start of Ramadam and the other to end it? I have heard of Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Azha.

TWO is right. I will tell the purpose of celebrations.

The first one is yes when the holy month of Ramzan finishes. Ramzan is a month when muslims fast.

The second one is celebrated while remembering the sacrifice of Ibrahim (peace be upon hin) of his son. We muslims say the son sacrificed was Ismaiel while the bible says it was Isaac (may God bless them both).

As per muslims story, Ismaiel (peace be upon him) told his father to cover his (ibrahim's)eyes while doing the sacrifice so that Ibrahim would not back out from his sacrifice. Ibrahim(peace be upon him) did actually do the sacrifice, only to find that the Ismaiel (peace be upon him) has been replaced by a goat.
It is this that the muslims remember and sacrifce goat/sheep/cows every year. However sacrificing goat is not compulsory (as per my knowledge). Charity is also good enough act for remembering the deed of Ibrahim (peace be upon him).

Where are we supposed to find the answer? Most of us (members) are not muslims.

Oops ok you can & you definitely have to search google for my question with regard to caliph Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).
I just thought that this event being as popular among muslims as christmas is in the west.... one perhaps didnt need google. I was wrong Smile.
But do try the answer for caliph Umar (peace be upon him) with google search. It wont be that easy.
