I thought Jesus was born either in 4 B.C. or 8 B.C. based on studies of the time of Herod, the star (planet) and other things.

I think that most astronomers and historians agree that it was as you say, Babthrower. The actual birth date of Buddha is also uncertain, with two dates of birth most often given, 566 BCE and 563 BCE. What I find most interesting is that there are still known descendents of Confucius in China.
But the important thing here is that, once again, Jenny got the right answer!
