Most people know that Methuselah, at 969 years, lived to the greatest age of anyone in the Bible. Who was second and third to him, and to what age did they live?

I'm probably missing someone, but:

Noah - 950 years (Gen 9:29)
Adam - 930 years (Gen 5:5)

and these guys never heard of the Atkins diet!

In double-checking my answer, which was the same as yours, I found that we did indeed miss someone. Someone lived 962 years, which puts Noah 3rd and and Adam 4th. Can anyone give us his name?

JARED
Father of Enoch and a pre-Flood ancestor of Jesus Christ; the fifth generation after Adam. (1Ch 1:2; Lu 3:37) Jared, the son of Mahalalel, lived 962 years (3566-2604 B.C.E.), second only to his grandson Methuselah in longevity. He had a number of sons and daughters, becoming father to Enoch at the age of 162.—Ge 5:15-20.

I cannot believe I missed this question. Where DID I put my hair shirt Eek Great question DG, both times Wink

It says in some of the commentarry that adam was supposed to live to be 100 years old, but gave up 70 years of his life because of something. Can anyone tell me why adam didn't end up as number one on this list?

Jared is correct, Patricia, and thanks for the answer and the compliment. Thanks to Herr FusenBlitzen for his answer, too, which I thought was right until I double-checked again.

Yafa, I cannot understand your question, since the age you give for Adam is surpassed by the age all of us have for him. If you can clarify, please do so.
