I think i should tell the answer to this question. Bilal (the companion of the holy prophet (peace be uon him) whom I am named after ). One can perhaps call him the first black muslim. A person who says Azan is called 'Muazzin or Muadhin'. A person who leads a prayer is called 'Imam'. Bilal (may God be please with him) is remembered as Bilal the Muazzin and it was him who used to call muslims for prayer during the prophet's life time. Bilal is also famous for quite a few other matters. Sayings of prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) which i once read; 'three black people will be among the leaders in heaven. Bilal, Luqman & Negus'.

After the death of Muhammed (peace be upon him) that person did give the Azaan as it reminded him too much of the prophet.
Welcome Dorian. One correction above. I meant to write. After the death of Muhammed (peace be upon him) that person did NOT give the Azaan as it reminded him too much of the prophet.
