Since the 13th Century, some people have been suffering, in their lives, of a weird disease, seen by the Catholic church as an unexplainable miracle. They would bear marks in their hands and feet etc... representing the holes of the nails left during Jesus Crist's "Passion", as an exemple.

Who "suffered" first from the "disease"? What are these marks called?
Hint: many of these people became Saints.

Hi Mozart,
You mean stigmata? Probably Saint Francis was the first.

( I want an extra special prize today, if I'm right, because I didn't google it. Big Grin )

Oh, Mozart! Si tu voyagerais par Ontario vers le Quebec, cet été, je te montrerai tous les attractions de la ville. Smile

(Let me know if there any inaccuracies above, and I'll fire my translator immediately. Big Grin )

I would have loved it dg. I don't know yet about the details of trip, I'll keep you posted. Thanx!

Your phrase is almost perfect.I'll correct two letters and it will work. Smile

"Si tu voyagerais par l'Ontario vers le Québec, cet été, je te montrerais toutes les attractions de la ville."

The second verb was spelled using the future tense instead of the conditional. No big deal, Big Grin

I agree, given that the person that translated it did it at a moment's notice for me. It was certainly better than I could ever have done by myself! That said, he still needs to learn to behave in trivia. Wink Smile

I'll be even more critical than Mozart on this. Technically, the verb following "Si" should be in the imparfait if the resultant clause is in the conditional. In the 16th century it would have been in the imperfect subjunctive (voyagesses, or something like that), which isn't used anymore.

Query: Do all the Canadian provinces take the definite article?

Yes they all do. Of course a "préposition" may be used. In the phrase :
"I went to work in Ontario", it becomes "Je suis allé travailler en Ontario

Notice that "en" is used when the Province (State) starts with a vowel or is "feminin",if it is "masculin" , "au" is used. For instance "au Québec, en Ontario, au Nouveau Brunswick, en Nouvelle Ecosse etc...

And you were right about the "imparfait" being used on the first verb, it should have been "voyageait" but in the everyday "street language" nowadays it is ok.

This is, of course, one of the more marked differences between Canadian and French French. "Gosses" in France is idiomatic for "enfants." So, the lesson is, know where the person is from before you ask "Combien de gosses avez-vous?"

A French person might say "Quand j'arrive du boulot, le soir, j'embrasse avec mes gosses".

You'll never hear that from a French Canadian, unless being very athletic .
I think this should have been used in another tread. Smile
