Were the team signed balls in the 70's, that come form the ML team fan stores at the ballpark, real or machine signed?

I'm guessing, but if they were sold in the fan stores, probably machine signed; hand signed balls would be more rare and available through collectors or obtained by having the players actually sign them; I believe it was later, in the late '80s that players started signing balls for money to be sold at shows and by collectors.

One of our members, Koz, is a collector, and if you run into him, he can probably provide better info. (He also owns Discussionpool.com, where you may be able to reach him.

Welcome to Answerpool, by the way!

Yes, a warm welcome as well..I agree with Sail--most likely machine signed as to crank out a ton of them to make $$..I do, however, have a legitimate ball signed by the original Toronto Blue Jays--probably because no one else wanted it!

The balls sold at stadiums are facsimile signatures. Nice item to have none the less for a team you enjoy.

Bob that is a good ball to have as any team’s first year merchandise is collectable. I have only recently begun dabbling in team signed items. I currently only have two complete team signed balls (1969 Mets and 2005 Nationals) and am working on a third.

I will be in New Haven in a couple of weeks to add four 1986 Mets I need on a couple of items. Asides from the ball (I figured since I am going through all the trouble why not,,, Roll Eyes ) I am working on a 16” x 20” photo taken immediately after Jesse Orosco threw the last pitch of the 1986 World Series. (He is also the first one I had sign it) It shows him arms held high and exuberant. The background is very dark and this is the first piece I am using a silver Sharpie for the signatures. It looks really sharp!

I guess it will be 5-7 years before I get Dwight Gooden on it though. Roll Eyes
