Good question--I like Rivera a lot--but I think Trevor Hoffman could be included on this list also..The stats don't lie--and he has played on some LOUSY ballclubs during his time..

And how about Dan Quisenberry in his prime? No, seriously. Best control reliever in history. Numbers to back that up, plus, still on the all-time top 25 saves list. Wicked bad.

I think Dennis Eckersley in his prime was the best. But for the post-season, Rivera has to rate some mention too. He has been almost automatic in the post-season.

What other closers in history have consistently saved 40 games a year for a lousy team? I can't think of any. It's one thing to save 40 a year for a team that wins 100 games, it's another thing entirely to save 40 for a team that only wins 60. Hoffman's in the same boat as A-Rod...you play for a lousy team, you don't get your just due.
