What are the names called a poor athlete in your favorite sport? I am not looking for 'hot dog' or 'show off' but names specific to one sport for a participant who just isn't very good. When I was wrestling in high school, a poor wrestler was a 'fish.' A fish went out on the mat, flopped around for a bit, then lay very still, and thus got pinned. Poor boxers are 'stiffs' or 'punching bags.' Does anyone else have any specific to one sport?

our high school rugby team used to call bad players 'fodder'. i dont know if they still do, or even if there is a rugby team anymore, but i got a giggle out of the nickname.

Dorian, I know nothing about boxing, but I've heard the term "tomato can" used. Is this another term for a lousy boxer???

And in basketball, especially, a term I've heard for players at the end of the bench is "Howard Johnson's"....meaning those players are used only as a last resort. Wink

Jelp, thanks, I had forgotten that one. A tomato can is empty and can be knocked over fairly easily.
