Can you use Tivo with satelitte service? Appx how much is a TiVo box and I heard that they have a monthly service fee...what is that for? My dad's girlfriend only wants a TiVo to record her soaps when she is at work...her VCR recently broke and it is hard to find VCRs anymore. Thanks for the info.

Kitty...we have Dish Network, and have the ability to record shows (DVR) I don't know, but would think that most satellite providers offer this.

The only problem we have is that we have two TV's on our dish, so it doesn't work if someone else if watching the OTHER TV, but if they only have it hooked up to one TV it should work.

I've never had TiVo...and don't know anything about it Frown The last time my mom saw a sale on VCR's, she got TWO...cause she records certain programs too and heard that the DVD's were going to make VCR's obsolete.

There are a great many TV/VCR combos on the market. The smaller ones (13") are pretty cheap. Buying one of those to record and playing back on a larger TV seems like the cheapest way to go.

I have DirecTV and one TiVo and one DirecTV DVR.

TiVo units used to be specifically made for DirecTV but no longer. DirecTV only offers their own model DVR nowadays. The older TiVo unit is much better than the DirecTV DVR (R-15).

It is easier to use, much more “user friendly” and has never had a glitch. The R-15 has had some technical glitches and has even failed to record some things it was scheduled to. Most of the times I could care less, but it did tick me off when I got home from Cooperstown and went to watch the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony that I attended. It says it recorded, but I can only watch about 2 minutes of it for some reason Mad . That has happened before too.

My bride is a TiVo junkie and records a lot of shows that she watches. She does not like the R-15, but loves the TiVo DVR. She could not go without it. I was thinking of switching to Verizon Fios television service a while ago and she objected Eek . Unless they offer a TiVo brand DVR she aint’ switching.

DirecTV cost is $5.99 per month for DVR service. There are no additional charges for additional DVRs.

My wife is a walking, talking commercial for TiVo as she loves it very much. I like it as you can record television series and watch them whenever you want and skip the commercials. A one hour show takes about 45 minutes to watch that way. (Some day I will watch the last episode of 24 Roll Eyes )

She has gone as far to record a show, watch something else for about ½ an hour and then watch the recorded program, skip the commercials and catches up to the show Wink .

I don’t watch much television myself, but I do watch the Mets games all the time. Last night was a perfect TiVo example to a happy household.

She recorded Big Brother (one of her favorite shows) and the Mets game last night. Watch the Mets game for a while live, pause it then watch Big Brother in chunks skipping the commercials. Flip back to the Mets game and fast forward through commercials and “down time”.

We both got to watch what we wanted (actually she double dipped as she enjoys watching the Mets games too) and did not miss a thing. Big Grin
