Anyone got any good/bad experiences with video projectors...you know, the one's they use in business presentations, but can also be used at home as a 'Home Cinema'? In particular, performance in various lighting conditions, etc.
I have used Sony projectors in the past and have seen many others. For the most part they are ok if they are viewed from a distance, much like a regular movie theater. If you have a room in your house that is 40 or 50 feet long then you might not mind watching one of these. If you get much closer the picture quality is seriously compromised. The models I have seen that actually have a decent picture quality are VERY expensive, over $6000.00. Then, if you are going to do this you'll need a big audio system to accompany the screen, which will be another substantial investment. If money is not an object, then you can assemble a home theater that is quite impressive using one of these projectors. If, however, money is a consideration, there are many alternatives that are far less costly and will be just as enjoyable and fun to watch and listen to.
