At work a bunch of us chipped in and bought a new stereo several months ago. Just recently, as in the last 3 weeks or so, it has been acting up.
The other day I was playing a CD and the whole system froze up. It stopped in the middle of palying a song. I could not hit the stop button, forward button or even the power button. The only way I could get the darn thing to shut down was by shutting the power strip off and turning it back on. It did this again a coupl of days later on another shift.
The other thing is the remote seems to have died. We have tried brand new batteries and it still will not work. Turning the stereo off and on, changing the volume or switching it from stereo to cd does not work with the remote.
What could possibly be causing these problems? It is very confusing and nobody can figure them out.
One last note, the stereo is played almost 24/7. (beings it is a 24/7 operation) CD or just the stereo. Could this be causing to much wear and tear on the stereo?
Thank You
~Heather

Have you checked to see what the warrantee information says? There might be repair options at the manufactures cost if it is still within warrantee. At the very least, you might be able to buy a new remote directly from the factory.
Almost definitely the constant use can wear the unit out more quickly. Also, since it is only about an $80 unit it would not be expected to last very long during such intensive use.
