When I got my laptop, it had a 6 month license of Norton Antivirus. I purchased a full license for Norton Antivirus 2003 in January and uninstalled the original copy and installed the 2003 version (it walked me through the uninstall and the install) It never did seem to work correctly and I (STUPIDLY!!! Mad) did nothing about it.

I have subsequently tried to figure out what is causing it not to run and have uninstalled and installed numerous times. Confused Apparently I am doing something wrong. It shows all the files when you go in to look at what is part of Norton Antivirus, but if you click on the shortcut for it, nothing happens – NOTHING at all.

I am currently experiencing all kinds of problems Frown (and know that I have more than one virus/worm running), but can’t figure out what to do with Norton. Any suggestions? How can I be sure that everything is cleaned off before I install again? Would having any remaining files there when I do the install be the cause of it not working?

Obviously, Anti-Virus protection is essential. Add to that, you really should be using a "firewall" to protect yourself from hackers online.

Norton makes a "uninstaller" program that you can use if necessary to uninstall the product. When it is successfully uninstalled, you should be able to reinstall it and get it working correctly.

Note: You can also run a free online virus check at Symantec: Click Here I suggest you run this first, since an active virus can cause many problems with normal operation of your system.

This is a link to the Symantec (makers of Norton AntiVirus) where you can get free online technical support: Click Here

Click the "Installation" link and use the "automated" support help. Post back if you're unable to get this problem fixed, or consider consulting a computer repair shop for assistance. This is really important.

A good free firewall is available free of charge to non-commercial home users from Zone Labs. I suggest you get the Norton AntiVirus problem fixed first, but then download and install the free ZoneAlarm firewall at: ZoneLabs.com

I hope you find this helpful. Please do post again, if you need additional assistance. Getting the Norton AntiVirus program completely removed for a successful reinstall can be complicated, but it can be done.
