I just checked my E-Mail and noticed a new message that looked suspiciously like the KLEZ worm. When I opened the message I was expecting the usual *.scr, *.bat or *.pif attatchment and the warning from OE about opening unknown files.

This new bug was disguised as a .WAV file and my Windows Media Player started to open it. eek I quickly closed Player and saved the file to a quarintine folder. Then ran Symantec's removal tool, and Yes this WAV file was infected with KLEZ.

I'm wondering; Can a worm/virus like KLEZ infect your machine in this way ?? i.e. Through Win. Media Player trying to play this file ??? confused confused

cool HEY & WOW I just noticed I've got a new classification, I can't even spell inthuzeist and now I are one. Thanks KK; will drop you a line soonest (Byter) cool

Hey Byter, welcome to the enthusiast's zoo...

I was infected with Klez 10 days ago, couldn't find it in my programs according to the "fix" instructions sent to me, so I had to erase my entire hard drive & reinstall everything. Unfortuntely, I didn't have an anti-virus software at the time I was infected, and the virus wouldn't let me install one either!

The first thing I did after reinstalling was to install McAfee Virus Scan...now, I've heard good & bad about this, but so far, between McAfee and my Mailwasher program, I've caught at least 6 emails containing viruses in the last few days.

Klez is particularly sneaky from what I understand...it can hide in any number of programs where you wouldn't even think of looking.

I know there are alot of Klez "fixes" out there, and hope someone can tell you of one that helps. I can relate, believe me! Best, Giz eek eek eek
