After I ended up with the Worm, I had several problems...I did end up logging in under Safe Mode, then activated the firewall and did the scan and got rid of the worm. I've had trouble trying to download the MS fix....
After all of that - my computer acts like I don't exist and everything is "new" again. All of my files and apps are still there, but it doesn't recognize any users or anything.
If I were to do a System Restore from a date prior to the Worm and then make sure the firewall is activated and run another virus scan, will I only be inviting more problems? I don't know how to set up users and such and am looking for an easy way around it (if that's such a thing!!). Thanks, Lydia
There are two (or were) users set up (both me actually - just different names from my initial setup). As soon as I open MSN to dial in, it tells me that there are NO users set up on it. I'm logging in exactly the same as I had previously.
It sounds like the login information was changed. This would change any number of things...your desktop, dial-up settings, email messages and address book.
I don't know how you can restore you previous information. I think there is a risk that using the System Restore may infect you with the MSBlast worm again, but since you now know how to remove it, it may be worth a try.
Perhaps someone else here will have a better idea.

That's exactly what happened Dwight, but I don't know how it was changed or how to change it back. Initially, I couldn't even sign on as a Guest User because the dial up information wasn't even there. My settings and such have all changed.
I was thinking the same thing on the Worm - don't know if it's worth the risk...maybe I'll just have to sit down and figure out how to set everything up...
Are you familiar with the Windows Explorer? If you press the *Windows key and the "E" key at the same time, the Windows Explorer (My Computer Explorer) window will open. Look in the C:\ drive for Documents and Settings (left pane view).
Look through these folders and see if any of your previous information is showing. Click the + sign to the left of the folder to expand the folder. Click the - sign to retract it again.
*The Windows key is the Microsoft Flying Window logo, usually located between the Ctrl key and the Alt key on your keyboard.
If you find your information, perhaps you could use that to restore your log-on.
