I've twice in the last week now gotten an email from "microsoft" telling me to download this patch immediately.

When I click on the email (in yahoo mail by the way), I get a screen to download, where it says "scan result - virus W32.Dumaru@mm found. File not cleaned.

This doesn't seem right to me...first, it's coming in through my yahoo mail and not my regular email. I have not downloaded anything yet, and wanted to check and see if anyone else has gotten this.

I've done a virus-scan with my McAfee, and nothing was detected. This is why I'm a little leery about this.

Microsoft never emails warnings of this sort. I don't know what the scam is, but this is a scam.

You should, however, regularly visit windowsupdate.microsoft.com for the latest patches. Don't trust 'patches' from any other source.

I did some further checking. This is a virus. Do not open or download it, delete it immediately. If you have already downloaded it, follow the instructions in this link.

Great answer from methos5000! I have seen this same message about 3 times today, and it does contain a virus. It is worth repeating, I think. Microsoft NEVER sends an "update" message like this.

Excuse me guys, but Microsoft does send e-mail notifications of security updates, if you subscribe to the service (see http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/notify.asp). The e-mails NEVER contain download links, however, but instead ALWAYS refer you to a page on Microsoft.com for more information.
