If you have Windows Defender2 installed be aware there is a bug in the software that is causing issues with the System Restore Program
From what I read It does not affect everybody and Microsoft are baffled too
I am one of the people who has this issue.
I have posted the symptoms and feedback link in a topic on this forumNote...Leave the Computer alone. The "remedies" so far, all involve Registry edits Frown
Too advanced for me Confused

I haven't read your link yet, so I cannot comment on the specific problem, but I wanted to mention a long held policy of mine which is to avoid installing new software when it is first released. It seems that there is always a "bug" and I would rather allow others to discover it and then find the fix before installing it.

Also, I agree that one must be cautious about registry fixes, but they are really not hard to do if you're careful. Also, if you have access to a "working" system that is running the same version OS, you can just highlight, then export the functional registy section. It becomes a *.reg file which you can install by pasting the file onto the bad system's desktop and double clicking.

This picture shows the winsock2 registry entry being exported
and the image on the right side shows what the *.reg file looks like.
You can read what the file contains by opening it in Notepad
(Open Notepad, set the filter to "All files" and open the *.reg file).

The issue does not affect the program which is very good, it seems update its position several times per day despite Instructions to the program to scan once per day ...does the scan then makes a restore point then next "log in" it makes another...ad infinitum Confused

I see this as a bug in the program, which brings me back to my long held practice of not instaling a new program until the bugs are worked out (hopefully by others).

I'll see what happens in the next few days and may revert back to the old version(for a while) if no Joy
Despite deleting it I can still download it from www.filehippo.com/download_microsoft_antispyware/
Using the 2nd link down the list...Microsoft AntiSpyware 1.0.701 Beta
And Dwight... The Version that I'm having difficulties with is not labelled a Beta on the Link only on the downloaded /installed program Roll Eyes
BTW The biggest bug on the old version was the registration date being out of sync with the actual renewal dates .I think the updates support ends for the old version August?
