I have a question how adaware works. When I run a scan, it picks up about 9 varmints, lol. Now what I do is let it put it in quarantine, right? After that, I go into quarantine and delete all of it, is that okay? I just don't want any of these rascally varmints on my pc. Thanks in advance!

That's exactly what you're supposed to do. My question is: do you continually get spy/adware?

Do you have any thing like Hotbar (including their Outlook Express add-on for emoticons), Xupiter, Gator (aka GMT or GAIN), istbar, Cydoor, Common Name, eZula? You may have downloaded a free program that was chock full of this stuff. You'll keep getting them until you uninstall the culprit(s). Some of them are extremely difficult to get rid of, so post back if you need removal help.

No, I looked for all those names Sonnet on a search and found nothing. The only one that I didn't like is Yahoo Messenger, seems everytime my son downloads it, I get this crap going on. So I deleted it, I don't use it, he has his own pc. I'm wondering about aim too, he has that loaded on there. I deleted kazaa along time ago, that one is real bad.

What version of Windows do you have? You might want to require a password for logon, (download permissions can be set with WinXP) so he HAS to tell you.

You can uninstall AIM, also. It's another instant messaging program; if you don't IM anyone, you don't need it either. I've got Yahoo, MSN, AIM, ICQ but haven't had a problem with any ads. I'm assuming by "delete" you actually mean "uninstall."

Just deleting the desktop icon, doesn't mean anything. You need to completely uninstall the programs. Either through Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove, or through the program's uninstall utility which is located in its individual program folder.

Yeh, you're right, he definitely needs to be restricted on downloads, how do you do that in Win Me?

I'm not exactly sure, so I recommend you follow TomGL2's instructions from this thread: How to Limit Access to Computer.

I seem to have seen a free download, somewhere, that will allow specific restrictions...can't remember exactly where, so let me go look for it, and I'll post back.

Of course, Tom may have another solution and his instructions/info are always right on the money.

Well, I didn't find the program, but I found this at annoyances.org: Limit Access to Users. I've got WinXP Pro and can set access limits from the built in features. The instructions, in the above link, are for Win95, 98, ME, so wouldn't work for me. Not sure what types of settings it has, but may do the trick for you.
