There is a "bug" in the combination of MS Windows and Symantec. The Windows Firewall doesn't "see" the Symantec, so it keeps popping up the notice of the lack of Anti-Virus / Firewall protection.
The correction has been made and if you both manually update your Symantec AntiVirus program and your Windows, the problem will be corrected. To manually update the program, open the Norton product and then run the Live Update. It should find a number of program updates and when installed should correct this problem. For security reasons, these program updates will not update automatically.
Be sure to also update your Windows (Internet Explorer/Tools/Windows Update). Again, this must be done manually.
As for the Spybots, I would suggest you reinstall it and continue to run the software. Some of the latest spyware is very difficult to remove. I suggest you use the "immunize" portion of the Spybots to help prevent these "bad" infections.
In addition, I highly recommend "SpywareBlaster" as a prevention tool. You can download the free tool
here. And while we're on the subject, another very useful tool is a modified "hosts" file. You can read about and download this free utility
here.I know this seems like a lot, but believe me when I say that preventing problems is much easier than trying to repair the damage after the fact. I have recently spent as many as 10 - 15 hours getting infected computer systems running again (while preserving the data files).
See an example here.Dwight
