Microsoft never emails warnings of this sort. I don't know what the scam is, but this is a scam. You should, however, regularly visit windowsupdate.microsoft.com for the latest patches. Don't trust 'patches' from any other source.
I did some further checking. This is a virus. Do not open or download it, delete it immediately. If you have already downloaded it, follow the instructions in this link. [This message was edited by methos5000 on 09-15-03 at 01:37 PM.]

Excuse me guys, but Microsoft does send e-mail notifications of security updates, if you subscribe to the service (see http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/notify.asp). The e-mails NEVER contain download links, however, but instead ALWAYS refer you to a page on Microsoft.com for more information.
