Someghow I got the GAIN software installed on my PC. All I ever get are ads ads and more ads from the darned thing. I know Gain is with Gator, but I do not have the Gator program itself installed. When I click on the uninstall button for gain, it tells me to go to program files, and add remove programs. I do that and it says to uninstall the programs associated with it. So I do that then I click on the uninstall gain icon and it tells me that I can't uninstall the program because it is in use by windows.

This program is driving me nuts. I have an adware blocker, Pop-up stopper, but it doesn't always work. If I am playing a computer game, the screen minimizes because a stupid ad pops up.

Anyway, how do I get rid of the GAIN program?? I can't figure out how to make it so I can shut it off so windows can't use it. I need-I want to get rid of it!

Thank You Smile

Heather

Howdy:

Boot into Safe Mode.. Run Ad-Aware (get it if you don't have it).. Then, disable your System Restore if you are running ME or XP..

Now, remove all associated programs.. Once that is done, reboot normally and then re-enable System Restore..

Thanx, Murray.

Unfortuantly I have WIN98. But I failed to mention that. I apologize...

I had to go into regedit and delete it that way. After about 20 minutes of deleting values associated with Gain, I saw this folder on the left hand side of the regedit. I deleted it and bam! It worked. It took everything out so when I typed Gain in the find box, it no longer found it. Nor did it find it in Find files or folders either.

I am sooooooooooo glad to be rid of that nasty program!! Big Grin
